By Robert Higgs

Article Added: 7th January 2008

*** SCENE 2 ***

Set as if in a classroom. Each character will enter alone as if taking their seat for a lesson and address the audience in turn.

PAUL enters

PAUL
“Nobody bothers me. They know better. I’ll flip. Anyone touches me I’ll put my fist in their gob and boot the head off their shoulders”

As PAUL sits down, REECE swaggers in. He stares out the audience for a moment, smirks and then sits down.

SIMON enters

SIMON
“You have to be a bully to survive in this place. It’s the way it is”

As SIMON sits down, JODY enters, as she begins to talk BECKY will enter also

JODY
“There’s something wrong with that girl. She is so not normal. She’s a freak. (impersonates Harriot, throwing her arm in the air) Miss! Miss! I know the answer.”

BECKY
“Yeah I know. It’s all..(impersonates Harriot) I want to be a lawyer when I grow up. I want to be a lawyer. And have you seen the state of her clothes? What a tramp.”

JODY and BECKY sit down.

HARRIOT enters and sits down.

JODY
“Your mum’s a slaphead”

HARRIOT looks round at JODY, then picks the diary up off the chair and starts to read.

JODY
“Slaphead slaphead slaphead”

HARRIOT tries to ignore them MARK enters.

REECE & PAUL start booing him. SIMON joins in.

As MARK sits down they crack up laughing.

MARK (To audience)
“Not long to hometime. I’ve spent all day watching the clock. I don’t do much now. I like football but I don’t really play anymore. He cut my Liverpool shirt up with scissors. He kept saying I was useless. Sometimes I kick a ball around in the garden. But mostly I sit in my room. Nobody can get me in there.”

All characters bow their heads as if hard at work in class.

After a slow count of Five they look up as one and shout out

ALL
“Hometime”

Everyone stands up and exits the stage, except MARK who is left standing alone.
